water desalination by membrane technology (ro) in southern iran (jask city)
نویسندگان
چکیده
background: reverse osmosis (ro) is an increasingly common method of desalination. a full scale water desalination system by membrane technology (ro) evaluated in a southern city (jask) in iran. methods: first, data collection on water supply and network were performed. analysis on most of the water quality parameters (turbidity, ph, ec, cl-, na+, alkalinity, ca, na, k, no3, no2, fe, mg, mn, nh4, po4, hco3-, so42- etc.) was performed as standard methods. the membranes of the ro in the desalination system were poly-amid (csm type). results: the efficiency of the ro water desalination system was 94.16, 84.12, 92.00, and 96.17% respectively for turbidity, na+, mg2+, so42-. the result shows a significant difference between influent and effluent water of the ro system. the produced water is in agreement with national standard of drinking water. furthermore, water exited from the ro system for tds, ca+2, and mg2+ was less than minimum limit of the guideline. conclusion: the quality parameters of the water resource (ec, tds, cl-, na+ etc.) were higher than iranian drinking water standards. the ro technology modified the quality of the water parameters.

متن کاملWater Desalination by Membrane Distillation
Water is the most common substance in the world, however, 97% is seawater and only 3% is fresh water. The availability of water for human consumption is decreasing due to increasing the environmental pollution. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), about 2.4 billion people do not have access to basic sanitation facilities, and more than one billion people do not have access to safe ...
متن کاملDiagnostic characterization of gypsum scale formation and control in RO membrane desalination of brackish water
The utility of a laboratory diagnostic approach was investigated for a systematic evaluation of the impact of operating conditions, membrane type, and antiscalant effectiveness on membrane mineral salt scale formation. The study focused on low-pressure reverse osmosis (RO) membrane desalting of brackish water with high potential for scaling by calcium sulfate dihydrate (gypsum). Gypsum scale fo...
متن کاملEffectiveness of Water Desalination by Membrane Distillation Process
The membrane distillation process constitutes one of the possibilities for a new method for water desalination. Four kinds of polypropylene membranes with different diameters of capillaries and pores, as well as wall thicknesses were used in studied. The morphology of the membrane used and the operating parameters significantly influenced process efficiency. It was found that the membranes with...
متن کاملNanoporous organosilica membrane for water desalination.
Nanoporous organosilica membranes are successfully coated on porous alumina tubes and tested for desalination via membrane distillation. The membranes produced pure water (up to 13 kg m(-2) h(-1)) across an extreme range of salt concentrations (10-150 g L(-1) NaCl) at moderate temperatures (≤60 °C) without exhibiting the characteristic flux decay of competing materials.
